Which Solids to Introduce to One year olds?

Mothers are constantly apprehensive about what food should be introduced to the baby and when. Parents are excited about little new things that the baby is introduced to – When the baby starts consuming other liquids, when they start consuming solid food, when they are introduced to other food items etc.

So what food should be introduced to the baby in the first year? One of the most common foods that the baby is introduced to is mashed fruits such as mashed apple, mashed banana, mashed papaya etc. Fruits that are soft and can be easily mashed can be introduced to the baby now. However, while giving mashed fruits to baby make sure that the fruit is not very cold and suits the baby. Otherwise there is a likely chance that the baby might catch a cold. Mashed bananas can be given to the baby with milk as well. In case if the baby is facing constipation problems, papaya can be good option to choose. Other fruits like chikoo, pear and mango can also be given.

Vegetables can also be an addition to a baby’s diet apart from fruits. Boiled and mashed vegetables like cauliflower, tomato, cabbage, bottle guard etc can be given to the baby. It is a good idea to begin with very little quantity of vegetable and then gradually increasing it from there on.

After the baby is introduced to mashed fruits and vegetables, he or she can also be introduced to porridge. Different kinds of porridge food made out of cereals can be consumed by the baby once or twice a day. The quantity can be two teaspoons initially and can be gradually increased.
