Helping Your Child Cope With Bullying In School!

The reasons why a child is bullied:

Some children experience fear at home, society and other places such as school. As you might be aware that most children cannot handle fear, as they tend to be very sensitive during their early stages of life. A child when studying in a primary or secondary school may be a little reserved or rather very fearful to express his/her feelings. The biggest reason why some children at school face bullying is because they are fearful, sensitive and unaware about how to deal with other children of their age. The child requires to be molded into a fearless personality and one who can talk smartly with people without any problem.

A child’s mental state when he/she is bullied in school:

The child will be unusually scared, reserved, might tell a parent that he/she wants to avoid school at all costs, might get very aggressive, might not eat well enough, have sleepless nights, may be losing a lot of belongings and does not remember when and where it has been losts, might demand or ask for money/food very unusually, cannot cope with academics, loss of concentration, or even is unable to see in the eyes of their parents.

The after effects of victimized children:

Such victimized children, when they grow up, become rebellious individuals and have very anti-social belief systems. They feel cursed, abused, and feel revengeful. They are in the mode of targetting all those people either consciously or unconsciously who have either abused them or even bullied them in any way to avenge the pain that they have gone through. Their mental state get disturbed very often than not and for them to stabilize mentally takes a lot of time.

What a parent can do:

A parent should take a few steps to enable proper communication of feelings between the parent and the child. It is essential for the child to develop a habit of expressing their feelings completely with a parent/counselor/friend/sibling who is him/her self able to manage their own social lives. When a child expresses and share his/her feelings with a mentor, the child becomes more and more aware about various issues relating to their lives. There has to be someone who can guide the child in tackling bullies in school. Children need to be taught to become bold enough all by themselves so there does not arise a need for a parent/sibling/friend to help the child tackle bullies in school. Moreover, children need to learn to be humorous, creative, smart and must be able to talk smartly. This way children can deal with bullies as well as handle other pressures while they grow up.
